im not new but i think autocross is pretty wack, prolly cause my car would fall apart in the process, if im gonna do some kind of road racing ill pay the big bucks to go to a real road course, but im too broke for that also......

autocross is good for holdin' down the fort between track events...
realistically I can only make 3 of 4 a year tops, but I can hit 15-20 autocrosses. seat time is seat time...
I know some of you guys struggled yesterday (split, h22evolution) all I can say is I didn't get a single clean run at my first event, but I like to think that I have become fairly successfull in the 5 or 6 months since. that course sunday was a little tough to follow...your day will come.

^ what he said. wait i dont go to any real road coarses. hoe well. its still fun till my baby gets here. sa'll good. but all i can say is split laid a nice ass burn out. drkirony, split, that se-r kid, and some of the other first timers all put down some pretty good times. especially for your first time. practice makes perfect....

the hell with dragging, i think i found a new calling. they would have been decent time if i didnt get lost on the course. bandit u laid down some good times and you only hit 1 cone total out of 4 runs. i need to get the pictures developed from this last event. i will bring like 3 rolls to the next event

well, if drag is sex (just gas and go), and autox is like sex w/ more girls (more than just the gas), how can you say autox is wack? hehehe ;)

Some things I noticed while working the course.
Too much shifting - if you don't have a turbo, keep it in second. You are losing time by shifting.
Spinning tires in first is ok at the start, but pointless after. Should be kept to a minimum. You want traction and spinning is not traction.
Don't touch the clutch pedal when you are braking, let the engine do the braking.
When not on the brakes, you should be on the gas, even if it just a little bit.
Just some tips. :D

I always thought the no shifting thing applied to me also BUT this is the 2nd event wher I experimented with using 1st in the slow corners. I was about 1 sec. faster each time. I doo need to practice NOT letting it hinder my corner speed in the preceding corner. I think it has to do with how much more power I have after 5K. I would really like to know If i was spinning my tires using first. I am really trying to roll on slow to prevent wheelspin.

Sounds interestiing and fun...would a civic 4 door have any place in this event....if so...should the 18s be left on or back to the stocks?
it seriously doesnt matter what car you drive and it really doesnt put too much on your car stress wise. seriously everyone just come out and try and stop being prejudice. :)

hahaha. ask deryl. he runs his 4-door civic with 17" and everything in the trunk, and still pulls good times.

Didn't your engine fall out once? I am sure that had more to do with the age of the engine mounts then the actually autocrossing. Just be sure your car is in good working order. The runs only last about 50 secs and you only get to about 60 mph if you are lucky. It's the tires that take a beating more then anything.

And the front valence if you hit cones. :D
oh yeah but i only broke mounts and that is a common problem for my car and it took 30 minutes to fix. im sure autoxing didnt help but that cant be the only reason. i guess i kinda forgot about that lol.

a weekend at a road course runs $700+, usually much +. autocross cost $20 and passes the time between track events nicely.
as for shifting, these B series engines really fall on their face below 5K...

I only paid $300 for my weekend plus food and hotel. I shared a room with three instructors. That was interesting.

I am sure that you realize NOS is not legal in autocrossing. In fact if they see that you are NOS capable they could prevent you from running until everything is removed from the car. I mean everything. Greg (safety steward) was talking about this at a past event. He is not strictly enforcing that rule of the club BUT do not use the NOS or you could be required to meet the letter of the law in the future. That would be bad for you and everyone else who happens to run NOS on the street for fun and still autocrosses with 95% of the NOS stuff still attached.

i'm not sure how much bottom end torque you got on that frankenstiener, but bring it, a tire pressure gauge and some skills and let's see what you got.

Andrew,
I have been to a few autocross events before and enjoyed them. I do plan on attending more to watch or maybe even participate.
