Jan 12th BCC autocross at Pungo

The Beachcombers Corvette Club is hosting the 3rd auto-x in their Winter Series 4 on Sunday, January 12th, at Pungo airfield. The Beachcomber recently used bulldozers and road graders to uncover an additional 2,000 square feet of concrete at Pungo. You can go to their website(www.beachcomberscorvetteclub.com) for more info. (The January flyer should be posted shortly.) Their on-line pre-reg system (www.merrit.org/cgi-bin/bcc/reg.cgi) will be activated on Sunday, December 29th if you want to pre-reg.

I could not find any info on that. Can you tell me more about how it looks compared to the old concrete.

:beer: That's exactly what did it for me too. After 2 years at ODU, I got suspended with my 1.3GPA. Came back after working for a year (plus some TCC Bullshit) got my engineering degree in 3 years with over a 3.0 GPA.

Not many people use the BCC system. I don't think the corvette people know how. Oh well..

As to someone mentioning the extra 2000 sq feet they got. the only think that i can think of is the "bump out" where the trailer and some other misc shit was sitting. If you are sitting at the start, it's off to the left allllllllllll the way across the patch of concrete.

on another note, I heard a rumor, and I stress RUMOR, that the owner of the Pungo place plans to try and build a road course or some "motorsports facility" there. I don't know any more then that, but a 1/4mile and track would be really damn nice.

Yeah... The owner is an SCCA and Vintage road racer. He used to promote the "Race at the Base" vintage race a couple of years ago. He had hoped to get enough together to make a permanent home for the race, but that didn't work out. The more we use it, the more likely it is to actually become a motorsports facility. He only owns our side of the fence. The US government still owns the other side. I don't see a huge facility being built unless he can somehow acquire that side as well.

I had not thought of that. The only thing on the other side of that fence is the Coast Guards LORAN tower, which I don't think they are going to give up anytime soon even with the proliferation of GPS.

They actually look better than I thought. I really like the open spoke design. You can see the rotors and calipers really well (I guess I have to finally paint my calipers now :p !!). I figure I will keep them on the car until the next auto-x since I will not be driving the car next week. BTW, I signed up for the beach comber event. I think I am running 21 (I noticed you were 23). I don' t know how to get to the list though once you sign up.

I just though of a new competition, instead of the teams. Pick five guys that run for the best PAX score (Dave can not enter). The loser must paint his brakes (pink, red or yellow) for at least three more races. What do you guys think. :p

That's why I have 19. Second heat, which means the first clears all the shit off the course but you don't have to wait around all day.

Lately I have had a lot to do when I get to the events. I have simplified things a bit. It just seems to take so long. I have plenty of other things I could also be doing but enjoy the racing. Just need to make it more manageable.

I ordered a slightly higher spring rate than you did, so with can compare everyday rides and/or trade. Do we know when they are coming in? What's the new toy? Anything I don't have.:moon:

Mike said the stuff should be in on Tuesday, including the camber plates. As far as the spring rates go, I think that based on our driving skill level, there probably won't be much difference at the auto-x but there will be on the street. I don't know, 450f/550r doesn't seem that different than 515f/575r.

As far as the new toy, it is a Momo steering wheel. It is a smaller diameter than the stock wheel and is thicker. The car feels more responsive and is more fun to drive with it.

Who makes a 515# spring? The 450f car will lean more but be a little looser in the back.

The springs for the suspension I am talking about are made by Eibach. The 450f/550r combo (which is going on my car) is actually a good combination for track/street performance. I can't say that for other cars though......

I am sure they are the Eibach ERS springs which come in 25# increments. You probably mean 525 not 515. I loved the way Jerry's car was before and I am super curious what it will be like now. Probably a autocrossing killer. I guess I am going to have to spend more money to keep up :rolleyes:. Thats not happening by the way. My car is getting more track ready over the next couple weeks. I am going to be installing a oil cooler and gettting some Carbotech pads before I go to VIR.

Now that I think of it, you are right. It was 525 and not 515. And you are right, Jerry's car is pretty quick (a hair quicker than mine) but I should be able to close the gap between us now. But I will have to wait and see on Sunday....

if you include Kienen, i believe i'm sitting in 5th overall. not bad considering those 4 ahead of me are national level drivers.

i definitely had a great time. BCC put on a wonderful event and it ran sooooo smooth. i'm def. gonna be at the next one, if i haven't already started my swap.

The corvette club host the best events by far. They put the other clubs to shame. Nice job. At first I thought that I would just hit them for fun. Now I am going to concentrate on them. They seem to care about getting done in a fair amount of time.

I can video tape you as long as we are not in the same heat. So are you leaving Team BMW? I already told Beno that you were running with the team.

And BTW, the video footage I did take should be up on TeamBodega.com some time today. I took footage of Bret (yellow mustang), Beno (black Honda Civic) and Terry (silver 350Z). I also have some "M3 Cam" footage. If you don't know what that is, you will have to just wait and see :D .......

Don't beat yourself up so much. It is supposed to be fun, remember? In any event, we still did well as a team, even with your "dismal" performance :D !!! If you can't make it, that is fine. But if I see you there, and you plan on driving, you had better have your game face on because you WILL be driving with us :cool: .....

On a side note, you guys check out the link below. It is some video I have been playing around with. It is footage I took at the BCC auto-x. I have not bought the final version of the video software so there is a big "demo" sign on it, but you can still get the idea.

whew, that server's slow. but it's better than nothing. if i have time, i'll try to get adobe premier up and running again, and hopefully a later version that has the better codecs, and i'll try to convert those movies to .mpg

trip, i've seen you drive...you're good. in case you didn't notice, everyone w/ slicks or r-compounds seem to do bad that day, most like b/c of temperature and a dusty course. i'm sure you'll bring it back around next time.

word, it works on andrew's computer, but not mine. considering is a Windows format, it might need a certain feature out of a newer processor to run. i dunno. but i watched the video and it's cool as shit. Good going Jason!
