I'm sure some of you know him rather well. If you lived in the town of Vienna, it was hard not to, especially if you had teeth that needed fixing.
I heard the terrible news today, story in this thread:
http://www.vadriven.com/forums/showthread.php?t=260906
But the short of it is that Dr. Thomas, a staple of the Vienna community and by far among the nicest most genuine people you'd ever meet (as I'm sure his patients will attest) committed suicide this past Friday.
This hit really close to home for many reasons. Dr. Thomas was the very last person you'd have expected this out of.
Prayers and thoughts for his wife, children and the rest of his family. RIP.

Self-ish bastard. Committing suicide hurts your family and causes mental anguish and long lasting effects to children. Fuck him, weak bitch!

That's what really gets me.
His children are grown already, but regardless the pain it's causing has got to be terrible.
I can't say fuck him though, you'd have to know him to understand. Those who do will agree.
Sometimes it all gets to be too much, and maybe there were some kind of medication-related issues. Maybe hidden mental illness of some sort. I don't know any of the details beyond the death being suicide, but just the fact that a guy like him would take himself out...it makes me shudder to think of what he must have been going through.

Yeah, almost impossible to live/work/grow up in Vienna without at least knowing of the guy.

My grandfather commited suicide a couple years ago and I still have mixed feelings about it. I was sad then pissed that he could hurt us like that.
Hopefully something surfaces as to the reasons he felt that was the only way out that he could handle. I know that knowing the reason doesn't make it any easier to deal with but it does bring closure.
Sorry for this towns lose of a person that so many knew and loved.

Maybe it was financial and he thought life insurance would save his family? I speculate, but I guess there's no way to know for sure unless his last message is released.
That is, of course, assuming there is one but in his case I don't see how he could leave without explaining.

Do we know that it was in fact suicide? I can't find any obituary or anything that says so.
I'd be suprised it he was having financial troubles so severe that they could drive him to that. He was a successful orthodontist. When I was being treated by him, he was driving a Porsche. Something really bad would have had to have happened.
He was a nice guy, and his assistants were friendly. His practice apparently has a website: http://drwilliamthomas.com . I recognize 2 or 3 of his assistants who worked there when I was going.

Yeah, it was.
He hung himself in his home, and was found by his wife.
Poor man had issues with severe depression, and wouldn't let his wife or anyone else try to help.

I've never heard of Dr Thomas Cman. I've always went to this Asian dentist on Old Courthouse Rd, down the street from Taco Bell and Toiletbowl building.
I hope their family is getting through it.

Damn, that's weird...Dr. T is waaay closer to your house haha.
We just got a letter from his wife today, seems like they're handling it as best they can.

He made my teeth nice and straight. Anyone ever hear that dentist have the highest suicide rate? Probably a myth thought. Quite odd.

It's understood that dentists throughout the entire medical field are mostly prone to suicides. It's 2nd on the list right under psychiatrist. Still dont get why though...

you don't know what you're talking about
Depression is a serious issue that effects a lot of people, being a "weak bitch" has nothing to do with it.
