View Full Version : Possible Race and Show at Northeast Dragway

Ok, Tony (owner of Northeast Dragway - the 1/8mile drag stip in Hertford, NC) has approached me saying that he wants to hold a legal event at his track for us.
Well who is US? Us is all of the enthusiasts who have a head on our shoulders. It doesnt matter who us is. Anyone who has any sort of automobile would be invited. Imports, domestics, classics, bikes, 4wheelers, lowriders, hell, I would like to see some North carolina boys bring out some lifted trucks and smoke it all the way down the track. Its an event to show that we as a community want to go places and have fun safely.
What is the event?
Well, He has offered his entire facility for us. Complete use of all the Land, use of the Dragstrip, use of the stadium. We have everything at our disposal. I would like to have a race, show, and maybe a bikini or sound or burnout contest. Im not as familiar with ins/outs of a sound competition or think that we would get enough ladies for a bikini contest so i am moreso leaning towards a burnout contest.
The race setup would probably be 2 bracket classes (slow and fast), and 2-3 heads up classes based on time brackets (ie-7sec and quicker, 7.01-9.00, and 9.01 and slower.) something along those lines. This setup would allow for anyone to race any vehicle they want, import or domestic, Forced Induction or NA, Electronic or not.
I would love to get in touch with some of the hardcore pro racers in the area who could run a couple exhibition passes for the crowd too.
WHEN
Im looking at the first sunday in August for this to happen, i need to have at least 6 weeks planning to get everything accomplished.
RIGHT NOW
I need for people to voice their opinion for or against. And offer support in any way they can help. (please dont offer help unless you can actually step up when the time comes). I think we can make this happen and make it good

This was I had been trying to get started, when no one followed through with our plans, I let it go, and sent word to tony that everyone lost interest. From past experience in promoting and putting on shows it is kind of late to do one now, thereare so many shows already on the calender it would be tough. But heresa chance to get something major plannedfor next year, like a two day event with major sponsors to help with the cost, and possible magazine coverage, and advertisement.Francisco pm me.

thats just it though. we arent looking for a major event. we are looking for a BBQ meet on steroids at a track. Look at all the meets at Mt trashmore that are put out 2 weeks in advance. we have 40-50 cars there just by word of mouth. I talked to Tony last friday (May 26) and he said he's good to go just give him a heads up. We dont need a show where we have 60-100 trophies and places. We do want to give back to the people enter with prizes, but we dont want to go overboard.
A lot of the problems people have is trying to do too much on the first try. Look at a lot of the current race sanctioning bodies, they started out as a grassroots movement that was within their budget and reality. didnt have to worry about things falling through. People want to go up for a day and come back home.
I'm definitely down. I will be there to cover this.

:wtf: :dunno:
okay two weeks until the first weekend in august, what happened to puting a show together in 6 weeks,LOL. Well dont worry, we(NEIGHBORHOOD DREAMZ) are already in the planning stages for our show next year, it will be a 2 day event a the track, with racing, stereo, burnouts, and of coursea bikini competition. Like I said before, I've been doing this for a very long time(since 1990) its dam near impossible to put together a show or any big event like that in the middle of the show and race season, yeah you all can set up a meet, BIG DEAL, thats just a bunch of people sitting in a parking lot. Look at what happened to the honda meet,TOTAL CONFUSION.If you all want this you can help us set this up, SO WHATS IT GONNA BE.

i called tony about 5 times. and left 3 messages. he was going to check on the track dates i gave him to make sure it was good. He never got back to me. I followed up but to no avail did i get in touch with him. I've been doing other stuff and racing and working on customers cars so this isnt a big priority for this year. I still might do one later on near october though.

It is never good to start any show, or organization and put the word out, then drop it. Tends to affect your word when given. "Your only as good as your word"

HMMMM, good thing i said POSSIBLE race and show...

I went back and read the first post, read it 2 times, didnt see the word " possible" in that post. But to get everyone all fired up for the show, so many offered their help. Only to be told " its on hold" this is not good.
I have seen this happen twice. I can only speak from my point of view. It is like the boy crying wolf, pretty soon no one would listen to him.
All i am saying is to follow thru, get it set up and go.
The way i was treated when drag wanted to start an organization for the younger drivers wasnt good, i was told no one could follow thru, couldnt get it together, was put on hold, whatever. It could of happen, i have over 300 shows under my belt, half were mine and they were great, i followed thru. Proved i could be counted on , when i gave my word i kept it, ask anyone.
I had the support of my council on this, we were ready to help. The wisdom of hundreds of members at your use. I help start our CCCHR council and we are 15 years now. We have 5 councils here in va now. Very involved in preserving the hobbist rights.
So you see why i made this post. My 2 cents.

no where in the first post does it say that an event is going to happen. It only asks for input and show of support.
Look at the thread title for the word possible.
I only asked for opinions and voices of support or concern from this thread.
I think what is hard for you to understand is that people dont want to be in a club, council, group, member of something. People want to be able to do what they want to do. They just want a place to go. They dont want to organize a show. They dont want to setup stuff. They merely want to be able to hang out.

Okay I thought we were cool (francisco) but that is BS, what the hell was project 757, what were all those organizational meetings about, remember the last one, we were trying to come up with a name for this organization, we had (I'M LETTING ALL THE PLANS WE HAD SET UP OUT FOR EVERYONE TOO SEE) PLEASE READ!!!!!!!
1) WE, WITH HELP OF DEE, HAD PERMISSION TO USE AIK FOR OUR HANGOUT SPOT, REMEMBER WE HAD EVEN MADE A LIST OF RULES WE WERE GOING TO IMPLEMENT.
2) WHAT ABOUT THE CHANNEL 13 NEWS GUY THAT WAS THERE WHO WAS SETTING UP TO DO A STORY ON OUR GROUP. HOW WE WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE THIS BIG CARAVAN FROM AIK TO NORTHEAST DRAGWAY TO BE COVERED ON THE GROUND AND FROM THE AIR BY 13 NEWS AND THEIR HELICOPTER.
3) DEE WAS GOING TO GIVE "THE ORGANIZATION ALL THE PERKS AND BENEFITS AS A JUNIOR MEMBEROF THE CCCHR.
4) I HAD SET IT UP WITH TONY AND HIS DAD THE OWNERS OF THE TRACK ABOUT GIVING DRAG VA(BACK THEN) ITS ON NIGHT AND EVEN ONE SUNDAY A MONTH TO CALL THE TRACK YOURS.ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS DECIDE WHAT NIGHT YOU WANTED, YOU NEVER PRESENTED THIS TO DRAG MEMBERS.
So you are telling me that everyone up here wouldn't have wanted to be part of this organization, AND DONT FORGET ABOUT MEMBER DISCOUNTS AT THE TRACK. I mean you did say you had spoken to tony about this show, didnt like my ideas or plans, then had everyone volunteer to help you. This right here is why there will be no track ever in this area, you all fuss that they (cities and politicians) dont understand, they understand fully. If you cant pull together up here for small things why would they help you for something that big. I mean almost every other post up here you all criticize something or someone, if it doesnt fit in your little dream worlds then it aint worth your while.you know DEE AND MYSELF only wanted to help you guys because the same thing happened 10-15 yrs ago in the car scene, the council excepted us for who we were(lowriders and sport compacts this was late 80s early 90s) we got the repect from the older car enthusiasts and even the police to some extent, thats what you all are looking for right, but you just shut us out, so guess what, you dont want it, then we wont give it.

Whatever, yes they did. Anyway do it your way. We can all sit here and talk about a car show, place to meet for the hundredth time. Seems you are speaking for everyone on driven.
Good Luck i wish you the best. Dee
