what kind of "Track" are we talking about here? it wont take no few mil to build a decent track. its not that easy to just up and build a track. it will take alot to get it done in this area, 7 cities. but if you come with the right attitude you might could pull it off. be sure to mention that your doing it to keep the racing off of the streets though.

Dream on, again let me say this, its not the money, it is getting the land and applying for a strip, getting permits, applying to the city councils, strip certification, insurance.

If the city of chesapeake turned down NASCAR for a track, where only 6 races a year would be run, do you think a strip stands a chance? Besides there are many strips within 1 to 3 hrs away. Do what the rest of us do, DRIVE to a local strip and support them.

Yea it would be nice, but im not optomistic. It would take a whole hell of a lot of money, and some politicaly persuasive power.

Except in this area, rural is becoming more and more built up.

NASCAR was not turned down..

NASCAR gave HAMPTON ROADS a deal with you decide where a track will be built, and we will give you 2 Cup races a year..

The "Seven cities" couldnt decide how to devide the profit, where to build it, ETC and NASCAR moved along..

It would be nice to have an actual track, not another 1/4 mile crap whole, something with some turns in it so the Auto-X clubs could have a real place to drive and local road racers could practice somewhere...but yeah it will take a load of money and a whole lot of loops to jump through.

Just have a rural area and make sure its got black top surface. I like normal asphalt but it would be nice if we had a black top race track and i don't know i would say just make it like a big parking lot and then you could change the lay out for certain event or may be a road course.

id say somewhere along 58 in suffolk its extremely rural and there is an airport right there so im sure if the people around can handle planes taking off then they can tolerate some cars. but then youd also have to build the road from scratch and its not cheap at all, to get my moms resturant re-paved they wanted around 2k for a 30 space parking lot, shit would be fun though and also if you dont have enough money you can ask local business owners to invest under a corperation contract so you can sell part of your company.

I had backing 3yrs ago and three of the cities shot me down. if they've changed their minds it'd work, if not then it won't and yes it wiil cost well over 3million. and that's just for a 1/4 mile track.

I wish him the best of luck, but if there is another track close , both will suffer. I give you a thumbs up, when i wanted a car show on the boardwalk, i was told i was nuts and it would never happen, wellllllll we are in our 10th year! But there is so much to consider, investors is what you will need. That 3 mil quoted is real damn close, then you can count on being in the red a long time!

Buy a resturant with a big parking lot for everyone to cruz in !!!!!

Buy another resturant and make it 50's style, room for lots of cars and such. Put your waitress' on skates. Have a playground for the kids at both
Have a lot large enough to have car shows.

And my friend you will become rich!

I don't think I'm being a dick, but I find it hard to believe that this kid (and his Old Lady...he's only 23 *snicker) is going to come into enough money to

1. Buy enough land in a location feasible for a track
2. Build the track to the correct specs to midigate safety, insurance, and local ordance concerns
3. Be able to curcumvent or allevate community laws
4. Hire workers and run the track
5. Pay all the required taxes

I mean we're talking at least a couple of million on the cheap side. Do you really think this kid is coming into $2 million plus?

Exactly. You would have to get with a lawyer and draw up a waiver for EVERYONE(not just drivers) to sign when they pulled up. That would also mean pulling your own security and not enjoying the gathering as much unless you close it off after only so many people. Then the whole community couldn't enjoy it. Trust me I thought about this already. It would only be good for you and a few friends you trust, and even frends can get sue happy if they get hurt.

Im talking about MOTORCYCLES.

Local tracks??? What, Langley Speedway? LOL U can't be serious--those leeches want 15 dollars just to enter--sorry but the $$ I pay for gas to drive all the way up in hampton and back plus an entry fee is'nt worth it. Actually I drive to Hampton all the time to ride--I was up there yesterday all day----we got a piece of concrete somewhere hidden on private property where nobody pays to enter and its fun.

I have no problem whatsoever driving 35-40 minutes to operate my motorcycle on a legal ground.

1. If Langley did'nt charge to use their track, I would happily drive my ass up there and use them.

2. They dont let motorcycles out there everyday--I practice almost everyday usually every other day so that's out of the question.

Only solution is to build a small piece of pavement in your yard and do what you want in your OWN controlled environment.

When did this 1/4 drag strip thread turn into a motorcycle track?
As for a strip for the bikes i know nothing about, i alsways go to slades. And yes i also ride. And have since i was little. The only stunt riding i do is to try not get run down by idiots in cars and such.

As for Langley, if they didnt charge where do you think the money to run the track comes from?

THE CROWD, SPONSORS, VENDORS. LANGLEY is GAY. I'll NEVER pay out of my own pocket to do a stunt show at a track that brings THEM business UNLESS its for a legit charity I have no problem donating money and putting on a show for charity.

I payed the money last year and we did a little show for them just as like a little exhibition so they could see what we could do. But they did'nt really support us because the next time we tried going there for a show they wanted 30 dollars PER pit entry so that conversation ended rather quickly i thought they were joking!

I don't know if they got a different guy calling the shots there now, but unless they kill the entry fee I'll never support them. I'm not asking for much I'm not even asking for them to PAY me! This should be in their advantage--Scratch my back and I'll scratch your back. If not they can keep their track. LOL that rhymed LOL

yeah, i was out at langley the first day too. it was bunch of crap. they charged us to do a show FOR THEM, and gave us the most beat up piece of concrete in the whole infield to practice on. then they give us about 3 minutes to put on a show FOR THEM, while the ricer/tuners/whatever you wanna call them get the track for the rest of the hours we were out there. no thanks.

langley blows. i wouldn't take my car or bike out there for free, let alone pay for it.

as for other tracks? what other tracks? vmp is a drive. richmond dragway is beat the hell up. i mean, i can't expect there to be a track right down the street, but cmon, if you wanna play at the track, you have to drive way the hell out of the area. that cuts way back on people's opportunities to actually get any seat time. not everyone can clear thier schedule for that long to make it out that far.

this is exactly what they did in San Diego when i was living there. it was at Qualcomm stadium where the Chargers play. on weekends there was a spot of the parking lot with cones and you could do time trials and stuff. it also had a drag strip that was open on friday nights. that was a very good idea IMO. i just wish they could do something like that here. i've really been wanting to do some auto-x in my 240.
