Tonight when i returned from the car club council meeting i was watching the news on lnc and i freaked out, they called your cars "street rods" NO Street rods were from late 20's to the late 40's. I made the first call tonight, i got Vince Rileys mailbox, i left a message. I corrected them and told them to use the right verbage. the street racers that were caught are a small minority, and we all feel the same, ya play, you better be able to pay!

Michelle Washington is going to do a follow up story on this, we need to let her know what really is going on. And make sure we get out side reported correctly.

Please be very RESPECTFUL! As we need her on our side, tell her wavy 10 has been helping these young drivers, and that we have the full support of the state police for any possitive changes, offered to speak with shopping centers about cruz in's in our behalf

The news room # is 628-6200

Let them know.
Let me know.

Be part of the solution:D

It's not going to matter what ANYONE says to the media. Their mind is made up about "street racers". There were more reports on the news today about what the police intend to do with the cars that were taken during the sting. IMO, it's not good or bad to keep your mouth shut.. it isn't going to make a difference even if you don't say a word.

My two cents..

State and Norfolk police seize nearly 15 illegal racing cars

11:37 PM EST on Sunday, March 5, 2006
13 News

Late Friday night, Norfolk police and state troopers charged nine drivers with reckless driving and racing on interstate 564.

This came after weeks of surveillance on the interstate.

Police said the racers reached speeds of 150 mph.

"We had people surveilling in the bushes again [Friday] and when they saw it start they called us and we came up and shut them down," said Sergeant Chris Hopkins of the Virginia State Police.

Police said they also stopped several more cars at a parking lot on the corner of Waco Avenue and Little Creek Road. There, police issued forty four charges for violations ranging from suspended driver's license to equipment violation. Nearly 15 illegal racing cars were seized by authorities.

Police said that the parking lot was the staging area for the races. By the end of the night, police wrote more than 50 tickets related to this investigation.

But Debora Wallace, who lives just across the street from this parking lot, said those who congregate there don't cause problems.

"The people that gather there are on a whole very good people, they're not out drinking, they're not out robbing, they're there just showing off their cars, I haven't had a problem with them and I'm the closest house to the parking lot," Wallace said.

Francisco Petri said he customized his car, spending more than $20,000. Petri said people gather to discuss cars, and enthusiasts are not always drag racers.

But police said they have received complaints for weeks about those congregating in the parking lot at Waco Avenue.

An individual caught racing can lose their license for six months to two years, and their cars will be seized and forfeited.

So far that's all that I have found.

It does matter what you do. Hey they are going to stop any drag racing they see. I stand behind the officers on this one. they were BREAKING the law. From day one , you play you pay. It is these drivers that are causing the rest of us heat. You can sit and complain and doubt, or you can help us. Either way we ARE going to move forward in resolving this problem and we will achieve our goal Dee

That thread is over 1,000 posts long, this one is something totally different. Stay on-topic.

That lady doing the follow-up wrote me telling me she would be contacting mefor the follow-up story, but I haven't heard from her yet. If you know someone stupid who wrote the news in response to the story, warn them they are probably going to be called an we will break kneecaps if we get mis-represented again.

That's not the point of your post above, your point on the post above was "they got what they deserved", not "bad press coverage". Like I said, that topic has been discussed as well, but it's not the point of this thread.

if any of the media agencies did at least 1 thing to show they had our interest in mind, they would gain tons more support from ppl like me. They never mention the good things our community does, the legal track events, charity events, fund raisers, the simple fact that it keeps kids attention on something other than drugs and violence. Maybe if they interviewed someone other than a punk kid and his cavalier with a fart can, they would get a better point of view.

I need someone to explain to me why those with that attitude, the doubters, those who complain "about no one will listen", are so willing to roll over and go belly up, rather than get a good tude and be part of an amazing solution to the problem. I went to the state police on the behalf of the drivers that ARE making it work. We have the full support of the state police in any possitive plans we come up with. So shame on you, shut up, cowboy-up/ cowgirl-up and step up to the plate! Dee

I totally agree with Dee. people need to stop whining and become a part of the solution. There are really positive things going on that the drag community as a whole aren't getting involved in. There are 18,392 members on drag at this time. there are only 51 members on project 757 which was created to get the ball rolling to end the problems "we" are having in a positive way. I see that as a problem. way too many people have an opinion be it neg. or positive. but no one wants to help be a part of the solution. this will not happen over night and the current people involved need everyones help to make it work.

O-kay, all I see is complaining, keep the media out, lets do this, lets do that, I havent met any of you down at the track or heard any ideas come out of your mouths that make any since(autobahn), all there is, is negativity. I myself went out and got you a track, THATS RIGHT, the owner of northeastern dragway is going to open up on sundays just for those of you who race, already you can go down there on fridays and race for $20 until the track closes. DEE went to the owner of AIK, and got him involved, he is going to let us start using his parking lot in the near future for the official hangout spot(sucka 306, speedfrkgt, dee and myself will let you know when it will start),SO WHAT HAS ANYBODY ELSE DONE-----ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!!! So stop complaining and whining and get off your azz's to help!!!!!
