DragVA management is proud to announce its first major promotion!

Mission - Management is looking for 2 different web banner designs to advertise and promote DragVA.com. Banners will be used by management and DragVA users to promote the site.

Breifing - Web Banners must be animated. The look we are looking for...we dont know. Impress us! 468px by 60px and 728px by 90px are the 2 sizes we need. Both banner designs have to have the same basic style and look.

Time - You have till the end of January...BUT if an exceptional submission comes in and management agrees on it, that submission will automatically win the banner design contest.

Rules - You must be a DragVA member. You are allowed to submit more than one submission. You cannot submit one size. Their is no age limit. You will have to sign an agreement with DragVA.com for use of art.

Prizes -1 Real Wheelz Jacket $100 value* (see attached pictures for colors). 2 Free tickets to an event of your choice!*. DragVA.com decals. Promoted to a "Patron" for one year*.

Submission - Submit here as a post or PM GIO and I will post for you.

Good luck everyone and have fun creating and supporting your forum!

*DragVA.com reserves the right to limit which "Sport Compact event" you will be able to choose from. Event list to choose from will most likely be Nopi NDRA, Battle of the Imports, Midnight Madness, IMSTAR, Drift Show Off, HIN, OC Car Show, Round Up, and others to be listed. DragVA.com reserves the right to award jackets depending on what sizes and supply are available. DragVA.com reserves the right to de-promote Patron status.

I really dont understand your question about management? But correct me if I am wrong. No management is not above the rules. And management can also participate since we are looking for talent to reward. But I really dont see how this question involves the contest...

So get to creating! And stop asking so many questions..:D this isnt an AOL commercial.

LOL! Smartass! Sorry... The pictures were not hosted so we wouldn't run into the problem of people reading and joining just to win the contest. That way members would have a better chance to contribute and win this contest. If running a contest is such a big deal here than I guess we just wont do anything nice anymore.

If you do not have anything to submit or contribute a legit question that is on topic please keep it to yourself and move on. If you have an issue with this use the PM function.

For those that aren't forums whores and don't know how at least VB works, when a file is attached through the boards, it is unviewable to non members. So I think this was a very good move on GIO's part.

so uh.. yeah. this is kind of a big question that needs an official answer.

i really don't want to deal with looking at submissions by you jackasses that will do the entire thing in flash then give us a damn .gif file that's 5 megs in size.

unless I get an official answer, I'm just going to throw out there that you gotta keep it under 70k.

I have had a couple questions on wait should be incorporated for the text of the web banners, and honestly this is up to you. What is DragVA to you? Of course we need to include "www.dragva.com" and maybe something about being "VA largest car enthusiast web community". Other than that we mean animated as in a moving picture not "anime style" but if thats the way you want to go about it go for it. 70K sounds like a good size if its a tad bit bigger but looks good submitted and managment will decide to keep it or not. The larger banner of course will be a larger file size. But keep on submitting. If you need hosting let me know and I will upload to my server for everyone to see.

I really want to give this a whirl but I really don't have a lot of experience doing animated banners.. I might pull up cnet and see what I can find and give it a shot. Doesn't look like there are many submissions. Any preference on color scheme or anything?
Anything goes here...we are looking for something fresh. New idea's! If you want to keep the blue color thats cool too. Most of us like the color of the present DragVA.

Any suggestions on a program to use? I downloaded a few free shareware apps from cnet/downloads and they're basically template crap. I don't have a problem with ideas, or with creating the graphics--at all.. but don't know of any specific applications where I can put the image, the thought, and the animation all together.

BlewMR2 and ECHybrid...Great jobs! ECHybrid you are on the right road. Feel free to use the other logo too since it is more popular. Also to answer some of the questions I have been recieving thru PM...

The size of the file can be a bit larger. We just dont want it to get out of control.
You can create your own logo to for DragVA.com you dont have to use the 2 that we presently have. Feel free to be creative.
Remember animation gets attention but simplicity brings style. Try to balance both.
You can use any colors you wish.
Yes you can use your own cars images.

Keep them coming we have 2 runner ups so far. We may actually give out more than one jacket too for all the hard efforts being shown! :D Thank you and good luck...and remember have fun creating.

i just used photoshop for the banner itself, then switched to imageready from photoshop to animate it. hope that helps... because it's all i got:)

Photoshop is not an issue. I'm great with photoshop. I just don't do animations. I'll see if I can find imageready.

If I can just do the banner itself in PS and animate it in another program, I'm golden, and I win. :D

well i've got photoshop CS, i don't know about any other programs, but if you have that edition, you should be able to switch over to image ready in photoshop directly at the bottom of the tools pallet. good luck.

edit.. and that's what i do. do the banner in photoshop, then like i said, switch over to imageready directly, and make it animated. it's really simple.

For some reason I'm getting dithered type images, the images I preview in image ready look clean, but after optimizing them they get wierd, any ideas.

and no, it's really grainy, plus you have like an outer glowing layer that comes on and off in the beginning.

the grainy is the dithering I was refering to in a previous post. I do believe I have located the problem attempting to fix all images.

That's a really nice banner! One suggestion, out of personal taste, would be to do something with the edges. It's just a rectangle with animations inside, basically. Do something tricky with the actual shape of the banner itself to make it stand out more.

maybe round one side off and make some sort of indention to hold the actual web address. I can illustrate if you need.

Okay! Great submissions...I would like to thank everyone who participated in this contest first of all, for there creative work. Now for what everyone has been waiting for!

The poll will last for 2 days only!

So I would like everyones participation on the voting. (Vote or Die! I dont think so...:cool:)

Remember these banners will be used by every DragVA member to represent our community. (Myspace, Personal Websites, Shop Websites, Links pages, and so on..)

There will be one rule - Be fair, dont be biased because the person is your friend or someone told you to vote for them. Everyone is on the same side here.

Choose on the members creativity (Art - Freehand), originality, and style.

The poll will start on February 1st at midnight. And end at midnight (12pm) February 2nd. 48 hrs exactly. We will send a DragVA email to all our members asking them to vote for there favorite.

Good Luck to all the artist members. Start telling your friends when the voting starts.
